From First Light to the Messier Challenge — Sylvain's Seestar Journey

"Hello! I’m Sylvain(@sylvain.villet) from Switzerland, a 38-year-old software engineer.

I discovered smart telescopes in August 2025 and instantly ordered the Seestar S30. With no prior experience in astrophotography, I quickly got hooked and soon upgraded my setup with a sturdier tripod and an EQ wedge to get the most out of it.

By the end of my first month, I decided to take on the Messier Catalog challenge and even wrote an open-source tool to generate a custom poster using my own images. I’m now just 7 deep-sky objects away from completing the full catalog!

I love pushing things to the limit — whether it’s creating large mosaics, spending hours stacking and processing data, or collaborating with other Seestar users through the Seestar Collective Discord, where people from all around the world combine their data to reach hundreds of hours of total integration on a single target.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the S30 Pro, which I’m sure will open up even more exciting possibilities."

Huge thanks to Sylvain for sharing his inspiring journey with the Seestar community 💫
