Meet Scotty Bishop, a field service manager from Arizona, USA — a man whose curiosity for the cosmos evolved into a lifelong passion that now inspires countless others.
When he’s not managing building automation systems or indulging in RPGs, gaming, and his vast otaku collection, Scotty is behind a telescope — chasing the faintest glimmers of the universe. His journey into astrophotography began in 2017, when he transitioned from visual astronomy to imaging the heavens.
Starting with simple DSLRs and star trackers, Scotty’s dedication and fascination soon propelled him into the world of advanced astrophotography. Over the years, he has discovered planetary nebulae, earned AAPODs and IOTDs, and even seen his work published in books. He has even written guides on how to do processing using various tools. Astrophotography is his real passion.
When Scotty first purchased the Seestar S50, it was simply to share live views of the night sky with friends and family while traveling. But after his first few captures, he realized it was capable of so much more.
“Once I started using it, I wanted to see how far I could push it,” he recalls.
Soon, the Seestar S30 joined his astrophotography lineup — and together, these smart telescopes became essential tools in his workflow. With quick setup, multi-night stacking, and effortless mobility, they allowed him to capture deep-space objects with ease — even alongside his professional ZWO rigs.
"They have their place along with my other ZWO equipment. I now give the Seestar S50 and S30 as a recommendation to people who want to dabble in astrophotography as a very cost effective way to get started in the hobby."
From DSLR beginnings to capturing galaxies millions of light-years away, Scotty’s story is a reminder that astrophotography isn’t just about the equipment — it’s about the wonder that drives us to look up. 🌠
