From Microcosmos to the Stars — Christopher Spiegel’s Journey

Living in Innsbruck, in the heart of the Alps, Christopher Spiegel is blessed with dark, clear skies. Earlier this year, his passion reignited when his uncle, a physicist, introduced him to the Seestar S50. Soon after, he began using the Seestar S30, blending his love of photography with PixInsight post-processing to capture the wonders of space.

For as long as he can remember, Christopher has been captivated by the night sky. At just eight years old, he began exploring the cosmos with a pair of Fujinon 10x50 binoculars mounted on a tripod — his very first deeper window into the universe.
When he was 13, Christopher had a life-changing opportunity to visit Prof. Yasuo Tanaka at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, one of the pioneers of X-ray astronomy. From that day forward, he dreamed of becoming an astronomer. Although life led him into a different field of science — today he works as a microbiologist studying Earth’s hidden microcosmos — the vast macrocosmos above never stopped calling to him.
Now especially fascinated by Wolf-Rayet stars and their glowing nebulae, Christopher dreams of building a small observatory at home. With it, he hopes to spend countless nights gathering longer exposures, chasing the faintest whispers of light from across the universe.
For Christopher, every image is more than a picture — it is a reminder that no matter where life takes us, the stars remain a constant source of wonder, waiting to be discovered. 🌌
