🌌 “I’ve only had it three weeks — and it’s already blown my mind.”
— Richard Fearn, Northern England
Meet Richard Fearn from Northern England — a lifelong stargazing enthusiast and avid mountain biker 🚴♂️ who recently took his first big leap into astrophotography with the Seestar S50. 🌠
“I’ve always loved astronomy,” Richard says. “A few years ago, I bought a 102ED refractor, hoping to build a full equatorial imaging rig. But between the cost, the setup, and the UK’s unpredictable skies… it just didn’t feel realistic.”
That long-held dream sparked back to life when he discovered smart telescopes. After thorough research, he chose the Seestar S50 — and within just three weeks, the results left him stunned.
With just AZ mode, 10-second exposures, and Bortle 7 skies, Richard managed to capture the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) — a challenging deep sky target even for seasoned imagers. After only about an hour of data and some light JPEG processing, the galaxy’s vivid blues and whites came to life.
“I know it’s modest compared to the pros,” he says. “But honestly, I never imagined I’d be able to create something like this — right from my backyard.”
Next on his list? Trying out EQ mode and longer exposures — perhaps M51, or one of the great nebulae when they return to the sky.
Thanks for being part of the Seestar journey — keep sharing your amazing moments with us!
